What is a dental implant?
Dental implants are titanium anchors that are equivalent to the missing root of a tooth. Following complete healing of the implant, a natural looking crown or “cap” is attached to the implant and will look and feel like your other natural teeth.
Why would I need a dental implant?
Implants can be used to replace missing teeth and are fixed/permanent that cannot be removed unlike traditional removable partial dentures. In the case of complete loss of teeth, implant supported dentures are recommended over traditional removable dentures because of their ability to drastically increase stability, function, support and retention.
How do I know if I am a candidate for implant therapy?
A proper medical history and complete examination is needed prior to receiving dental implants. Any possible issues or complications will be thoroughly discussed at this initial consultation. Also, bone quality and quantity in the future implant area must also be assessed for determination of the proper implant system. Bone quality and quantity can be assessed with digital x-rays and even more precisely with use of our Cone Beam 3D system.
How long do implants last?
With proper care by having routine cleanings and checkups combined with good daily home care, dental implants should last a lifetime. Dental implants have become one of the most successful dental treatment options available to patients if performed in the hands of well-trained and experienced dentists.
